Minton Tile Restoration, West Yorkshire

This is part 1 of a Minton tile restoration carried out in Huddersfield West Yorks. This floor was typical of the large villa style houses in the area - a large floor with a particular nice example of a relatively simple design within the field tiles with an ornate border.

The floor was loose in the centre with one end of the floor suffering from a DIY repair, carried out some time in the past. The floor was manufactured by the Minton Hollins tile company so it is actually a Minton floor! - floors of this design are often referred to as Minton floors but are often made by other manufacturers. We uplifted sections of the floor and laid it again using spare tiles from when a mat well was installed, again at some point in the past. Most tiles were loose enough to be uplifted and simply laid again once space had been created for the adhesive.

The DIY repair was obvious as with most rushed repairs the tiles were portruding at various heights and angles. The culprit never thinks about the space required to set the tile back into the floor - adhesive requires space!. We uplifted the tiles and set them back into the floor so the tiles were now level with the rest of the floor.

Once all the work was complete the floor was cleaned and sealed to protect against staining. We have also had some of the encaustic border tiles made to complete a repair to a damaged section at the foot of the stairs - will update when completed.

Terrazzo Floor Restoration West Yorkshire

Finished anothjer historic floor in Elland, West Yorks - this time its an Edwardian terrazzo floor. This terrazzo floor was laid in around 1905 and has been hidden under carpet and bitumen for around 50 years.

The bitumen was cleaned from the surface but some of the bitumen had penetrated the surface of the terrazzo. Terrazzo is comprised of different coloured portland cements and marble chips both of which are porous. In this instance we cut the surface back with diamond pads to reveal a new and uneffected surface. Once this was completed we lighly polished the surface and applied 2 coats of sealant to protect the floor from general staining and to make the terrazzo easier to clean.

The pictures below show the floor being restorered. If you require your terrazzo floor restoring in West Yorkshire or the surrounding area please contact us on 01484 686270 - You can also email us Info@renewrestoration.co.uk

Limestone floor cleaning & restoration in Leeds

Limestone floor cleaning, grouting and polishing in West Yorkshire.

Before conducting any limestone floor cleaning we had to remove all the old broken grout in both the kitchen and utility. It can be pretty quick to remove if you use the correct tools and it was also quickly replaced with a good quality flexible grout. This limestone floor was cleaned to remove general dirt, grit and an old floor sealer which was half worn off. Once the limestone floor was cleaned we cut it back using diamond pads under a slow speed rotary machine, we then polished it with finer diamond pads. The floor was powder polished to complete the process - an impregnating seal was applied to protect the floor.
